Have you had your Joy Juice
today? Take refuge from the busyness and
drink in His joy to give you strength.
Have you noticed how often the word
“refuge” is used in the Bible…..especially in the book of Psalms? Repeatedly, we read phrases such as:
- “The Lord is my refuge and strength…”
- …”under his wings you will find refuge…”
- “I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”
“They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord,”
I’m pretty certain
that when a word is used often in the Bible, that means something significant.
What does refuge mean? One dictionary says: Refuge means shelter or protection, as from the weather or danger.
So….if GOD is our refuge that must
mean that He will protect us from harm! This is how theologian Matthew Henry
explained in his commentary:
“Whatever happens, nothing shall hurt the believer; though
trouble and affliction befall, it shall come, not for his hurt, but for good,
though for the present it be not joyous but grievous. Those who rightly know
God, will set their love upon him. They by prayer constantly call upon him. His
promise is, that he will in due time deliver the believer out of trouble, and
in the meantime, be with him in trouble.”
Take refuge in God and find joy in His
constant protection.
