Be A Truthful Friend

Have you had your Joy Juice today? Be fearless, but be careful that you are drinking in God’s personal serving of joy.

Nathan was a prophet through whom God spoke wisdom and counsel to David. Nathan was bold enough to always speak the truth, even when he knew it might result in pain. Though Nathan was fearless, he was a careful confronter.

The Life Application Study Bible says: “In confronting David’s multiple sins, Nathan was able to help David see his own wrongdoing by showing that he would not have tolerated such actions from anyone else. David’s repentance allowed Nathan to comfort him with the reality of God’s forgiveness, and at the same time remind him of the painful consequences his sin would bring.
Nathan’s approach helps us judge our own actions.  How often do we make choices that we would condemn others for making?  Unfortunately, we have a huge capacity (to put on blinders &) to lie to ourselves.  God provides two safeguards against self-deception: His Word and true friends!"

Let’s ask God to help us have “eyes to see” and “ears to hear” as He reveals truth to us through His Word. And what a blessing it is to have a tried-and-true friend who loves us enough to tell us what we need to hear…regardless!  Thank God for friends such as Nathan….and let’s be “a Nathan” to someone else.

May we strive to be a fearless, careful friend who spreads joy in the Lord by being a wise, truthful counselor.
