Mistakes, Do-Overs and Joy!

Have you had your Joy Juice today?  We all make mistakes, but God allows “do overs”! That’s one of His joy-gifts!

We can learn much from the examples of people in the Bible.  Even “good” people make mistakes!  Look at Eli. He was a high priest and a judge of Israel.  He knew the law; he knew God! He was a good man whose life was pure.  He truly delighted in His service to God….YET he made the mistake of failing to teach his children well.  He didn’t exercise the proper authority over his two sons and they turned out to be scoundrels!

Those of us who are parents can sympathize with Eli in that we all have made mistakes that we wish we could “do over”.  Not one of us is perfect.  Yet…..God gives clear instruction in His Word about loving and disciplining our children.

  • Proverbs 22:6:  Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
  •   Proverbs 29:17: Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.”

  •  Ephesians 6:4:  Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

As Christians we have a responsibility to love others and model a Godly lifestyle…and that is extremely true with our family members.  Young ones are looking to us for an example.  May we be joyful role models by “living out” God’s Word daily.

Though we all make mistakes, God allows “do overs”….followed by a healthy serving of JOY in the Lord!
