Have you had your Joy Juice
today? Is the fruit of joy growing in
your life?
Matthew 3:10 (in the New Living
Translation) gets my attention:
“Even now the ax of God's judgment is
poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not
produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.”
Recently
most of us found our yards in disarray from Hurricane Irma. We had limbs, sticks, trees and other debris
to pick up and clear in the aftermath. At my home, there were large pine trees
which were literally uprooted and the huge root system caused large holes in
the ground as the trees toppled over. As
I studied the roots of these trees which did not hold in the storm, I began to think
about our spiritual roots. Are we developing a strong root system and
therefore, producing good fruit?
Footnotes in my Life Application Study Bible explains:
“God’s message hasn’t
changed since the Old Testament---people will be judged for their unproductive
lives. God calls us to be active in our obedience. John compared people who
claim they believe God but don’t live for God to unproductive trees that will
be cut down. To be productive for God we must obey His teachings, resist
temptation, actively serve and help others, and share our faith.”
May our roots of faith be strong enough to
stand firm in the storms of life….and produce the fruit of joy.
