Have you had your Joy Juice
today? May we each desire our individual
portion of genuine joy every day.
We all have desires….some are good
and wholesome; some….NOT! It’s been that way since the beginning of time. Remember the story of Adam and Eve in the
Garden of Eden? The enemy did a number on them, didn’t he? Eve was looking at that forbidden fruit,
admiring its beauty… and her taste buds went into over-drive and her good
judgement….down the creek! When the enemy knew she was weak, he began his game
of temptation. And she caved…as did Adam!
Genesis 3 tells us that when Eve “saw that the tree was good for food, that
it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of
its fruit and ate.”
Charles Stanley points out in his
book, When the Enemy Strikes, that Eve had 3 needs in her life….which we
all share:
1.
She had a physical desire for what
tasted good and satisfied her hunger.
2.
She had a desire for beauty.
3.
She had a desire for knowledge to be
more like God.
Each of us is drawn to that which
looks good, tastes good and promises to give us more knowledge. Those are basic
“desires”. …sometimes known as the “lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the
pride of life.” We can choose to let
those desires consume us and drive us; or we can ask God to control those
desires in us and allow them to draw us closer to Him. That’s where joy is found….in the desire to
know Him in a more intimate, personal way.
May we desire God and find joy in the Lord.
