Have you had your Joy Juice today? Drinking large portions of joy in the Lord
safeguards us against harmful influences.
When a new
baby comes into a home, the parents try to do everything they can to keep him
safe. They childproof everything….putting
covers on the outlets, locks on the cupboards and removing anything that may be
of danger to an exploring child. From
infancy a child needs protection. Proper bedding is important; keeping plastic
away from little hands; safety rails on the crib…etc, etc.
Parents are
usually pretty good at taking proper safety precautions---physically. But what about spiritually? Do we take safeguards in teaching our children
about joy in relationship with Jesus? Do
we see an importance in making sure they are in church on a regular basis to
learn about God and His ways? We can’t always tell our kids what to think or
believe, but we can lay a foundation so that when the time comes for them to
make important decisions, they will be ready.
2 Timothy
3:15-17 says it well: “and how from infancy you have known the Holy
Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in
Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so
that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
As parents, grandparents,
and Christian adults, let’s strive to “safeguard” our children by teaching them
the joy of Jesus.
