A Sacrifice of Joy

Have you had your Joy Juice today?  Give generously from the “joy-bank” in which God has made abundant deposits.

We’ve read and heard the story many times about the poor widow who gave “two mites”….which was the smallest denomination of coin minted in the Greek world in those times. In the economy of that day, it was worth about 1/128th of one day’s salary—not enough to even buy a stale loaf of bread. (David Jeremiah)

Let’s read from the Word of God the story in Mark 12:41-44:
And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, ‘Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had....’”

If we were in the widow’s shoes, would we have been tempted to put in just ONE of the coins?  Would we have tried to be frugal and save something for ourselves…especially knowing that we were in such need?  It’s very powerful to realize that she gave ALL she had.

The lesson here is that Jesus is not concerned with the amount we give…but the condition of our heart.

Are we willing to give sacrificially and joyfully?
