Love Him with a JOY-filled, Servant's Heart

Have you had your JOY JUICE today?  Serve some genuine joy to others along your way!

We’ve come to associate the word “servant” with negative connotations. But today’s JOY JUICE focus is on the parable of Jesus in Luke 17:7-10 in which Jesus teaches us about our role as a servant of God.  Sometimes we act as if we believe that if we do what God’s Word says, we deserve a pat on the back and lots of praise.  (And no one will deny that it’s a great feeling to be praised and appreciated.)  However, this parable points out very clearly that our JOY should come in simply being obedient because of our love for Him.

Let’s read these verses from the Living Bible translation:
“When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, he doesn’t just sit down and eat, but first prepares his master’s meal and serves him his supper before he eats his own. And he is not even thanked, for he is merely doing what he is supposed to do.  Just so, if you merely obey me, you should not consider yourselves worthy of praise. For you have simply done your duty!”

Does that hit you right between the eyes…like it does me?  When we serve God, when we follow His commands, when we commit to listening to His voice as He opens doors for us to spread His love and joy, we should be doing it for no other reason but our love for him. It’s our duty as a follower of Christ to be busy about serving Him.  Colossians 3:23 tells us “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

When we serve God simply out of love and devotion for Him, our hearts and lives will overflow with JOY!
