Bitterness Can Steal Your Joy

Have you had your Joy Juice today?  Don’t let your fresh servings spoil by letting bitterness seep in!

            According to author Crystal McDowell:

“A bitter spirit can happen to any one of us if we aren’t careful. A bitter root can grow subtly in our hearts long before the fruit of it rises to the surface. Unresolved anger, an unforgiving attitude, resentment, jealousy, and continued disappointment are just a few of life’s struggles that cause us to plunge into bitterness."

What is the remedy for a bitter spirit?  It’s the healing balm of the Word of God. We should slather the “oil of joy” onto our hearts every chance we get! It’s a healer; it will allow the love, joy, and peace of the Holy Spirit to shine through us.

Look at the following verses:

  •  Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
  •   Proverbs 28:13:  “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”
  • Colossians 3:13:  “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Let’s meditate on these verses; may we ask God to help us recognize and get rid of our bitterness and replace it with His joy.
