The Shield of Faith (and Joy)

Have you had your Joy Juice today?  Wearing the armor of God makes you thirsty for His joy, so drink up and know that you are protected!

Earlier we studied in Ephesians 6 that we should put on the armor of God; so we buckled our belt of truth, slipped into our breastplate of righteousness and tied our shoes of peace!  Now, verse 16 tells us to “take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one!”

The flaming arrows or “fiery darts” that are mentioned here refer to the “bombardment of the mind with thoughts, impressions, and impulses that are contrary to God’s purpose,” Charles Stanley writes in his book When the Enemy Strikes.   These thoughts might be thoughts to do evil. They may be angry thoughts or temptations to sin. They may even be disguised as fear, doubt or pride.”

Unless we learn how to intercept these flaming arrows fired by our enemy, the results can be devastating!  Like a good solider, we need our trusty shield to protect us from these flaming arrows…and that shield is our FAITH.  When the enemy fires thoughts into our minds, our faith quenches those thoughts.

So keep your shield of faith handy so that you will be protected at all times; and experience the JOY of knowing that God has you in the safety of His arms.

Using the Shield of Faith brings joy to your heart because you can rest secure in the protection of God!
