Have you
had your Joy Juice today? Let’s drink it
in so that “it may go well with us”, as the Scripture says.
How
diligently do we search the scriptures?
Do we zip through our Bible reading just so that we can check it off our
list of “things to do today”? Or do we
even consider that we should be faithful in reading it? Many times we are distracted and we don’t
remember what we’ve read. There is a huge
difference in simply reading the words and meditating on the truth of
scripture.
The Bible
says, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy
2:15). And in James 1:22 we are admonished to: “Be ye doers of the word,
and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves”.
How can we understand
and apply the truth of scripture so that we can be “doers of the word”? First, as we read the Bible, we should
consider the context of what we are reading.
Who is the author? Who is he
writing to? What are the circumstances?
Studying to
show ourselves “approved unto God” involves more than simply learning the
facts. Meditation on the text is an important step. We should allow the Holy
Spirit to guide us as we study and show us how to apply God’s Word to our daily
lives.
Let’s drink in the Joy Juice of Jesus
faithfully as we meditate on the Scripture and become “doers” of His Word.
