Have
you had your Joy Juice today? Is your
heart like a “well-spring” of joy?
King
Soloman said in Proverbs 4:23: “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the
wellspring of life”.
What is a well-spring? One dictionary says: “a source of continual
supply”. But I like this definition even better: “An original and bountiful source of
something!” What is in your heart? Is there original and bountiful joy coming
straight from the “source” named Jesus?
Our heart is extremely valuable. That’s why we are admonished to guard it
above all else! Worthless things don’t need guarding! At my house, we leave our trash can by the
road for anyone to have…it they’d like; there is nothing of value in it, I can
assure you!
But that is certainly not true with
each of our hearts! Michael Hyatt teaches that our heart is the essence of who we are! He writes: “It is your authentic self—the core
of your being. It is where all your dreams, your desires, and your passions
live. It is that part of you that connects with God and other people. This is why Solomon says, ‘Above all else.’
He doesn’t say, ‘If you get around to it, it would be nice….” No, he says:”Make it your top priority.”
Each of
us is a model for someone. We should
make certain that our heart is guarded and that it is a wellspring of good,
godly things…such as joy in the Lord!
May your wellspring be an original and
bountiful source of joy.
