Race Toward Joy

Have you had your Joy Juice today?  Did you wake up tired this morning?  Maybe you have forgotten that the joy of the Lord can fill you with strength.

Often we choose to be so busy that we forget our goal: to run in such a way that we  glorify God in all that we do.  Let me share a little illustration.  One of our grandsons is on a five-year old flag football team. This was our little guy’s first experience with playing on a team and the first time learning the rules of the game. One day, it was his turn to run the ball…and run he did!  Just as fast as his little legs could carry him!  And he ran straight toward the goal line….the opposing team’s goal line!  His coach had to remind him which goal he should run toward.

Is that so unlike us at times?  Running hard…as fast as we can!  And then realizing too late, that we’ve run toward the wrong goal!  In Philippians 3, Paul reminds us that, indeed, we should run.  But we should run with the right goal in mind.  Paul said in verse 8: “What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”

Let’s run toward the goal of knowing Jesus.  Is your relationship with Him more important that ANYTHING or ANYONE else?  Our ultimate goal should be “to know Christ”; that will give us new energy for the daily race of life.

May we be sure that we are running toward the right goal!  And run with JOY!!!!
