Grow the Discipline of Joy

            Have you had your Joy Juice today?  An intimate relationship with God brings abundant joy to our hearts and lives!

            In his book, So You Want To Be Like CHRIST? Charles Swindoll gives a beautiful analogy of a person who has a personal, intimate relationship with God. He writes:

“Remember, intimacy is never natural, automatic, quick or easy.  Show me someone who is intimate with God, and I’ll show you someone who can be compared to a beautiful garden without weeds.  Because all gardens grow weeds, you can bet that someone has taken time to cultivate the good plants while rooting out the bad ones.  People who are close to God cultivate a personal intimacy with Him like a good gardener cultivates beautiful flowers. So intimacy is both a discipline and a goal—much like humility and prayer and sacrifice, and any of the other spiritual disciplines.”

            What does your garden look like today?  Are there weeds that need pulling?  Maybe off-shoots that need pruning? Are you watering your garden with Bible study and prayer?  If we tend our gardens sporadically, we will be sure to notice the signs of neglect.  Weeds will naturally peek their head through the soil and if we are not tending our garden faithfully, we will not become all that God intends us to be.

            Remember Isaiah 58:11:
11 The Lord will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like a spring whose waters never fail.

May your garden bloom and blossom with the fruit of joy!
