Have
you had your Joy Juice today? If you
were asked to give a definition of “joy”, what would say?
Warren
Wiersbe gives a beautiful definition in his book This Is the LIFE! He
says: “Joy is the spontaneous, exultant response of the Christian’s heart to
the Lord when it is moved by who God is, what God says in His Word, or what God
has done or is doing.”
Often
we find ourselves searching for happiness.
We like the feelings we experience when something wonderful
happens. And there is certainly nothing
wrong with happiness. It’s a
blessing! What we must remember is that
genuine joy is very different from happiness.
We can be heartbroken over the loss of a loved one or something painful may
rob us of our happiness…yet even in the midst of the storm, we can experience
joy because of how God shows up and comforts us in ways that only He can.
In
a nutshell, genuine joy is about intimacy with Christ: knowing Him, knowing His
promises, knowing that He has a purpose for our lives.
You may be “unhappy” at this very moment, but you can still be joyful in
Christ. As Romans 8:28 reminds us: “And we know that all things work
together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according
to his purpose.”
