A Song of Joy

Have you had your Joy Juice today?  Sing a song of Christmas joy as you prepare your heart for this season of the year.

Luke 2:13-14 says: "Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.'"

Keep in mind that the shepherds were in the dark….in more ways than one! Literally, they didn’t have flashlights or electric lights…just the fire they may have built to help them through the night.  As they were keeping watch in the darkness, suddenly an intensely bright light broke into the black night, as the sky above Bethlehem filled with a multitude of angels. At that point I don’t think they were singing a song of “joy”! They were trying to figure out what was happening! They were afraid…terrified, the scripture says!

The story continues in Luke 2:15-18: "When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them."

By this time I’m thinking, a song of joy had formed in their hearts! The greatest, most amazing event in history had unfolded right before their eyes.  And like the angels who sang to them in the fields that night, they now had a special joy-song.

May we sing with joy throughout this blessed Christmas season!
