May Your Candle of JOY Shine Brightly!

Have you had your JOY JUICE today?  As you begin to put away your Christmas decorations, don’t put away your JOY!

One of my favorite Christmas decorations is our advent wreath with candles. We began a family tradition the year we lost my husband’s father.  With our children, we would honor their grandfather by lighting the candles each Christmas in his honor….all the while celebrating the REASON for the season…..Jesus Christ.

The first candle represents the candle of HOPE. Our hope comes from God. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.(Romans 15:13)

The next candle is the candle of preparation.  Preparation means to “get ready”.   (Luke 3:4) "Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him."

The third candle is my favorite, because it’s the candle of JOY….it’s even a different color from the rest!  But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord”. Luke 2:10

The fourth candle is the candle of LOVE…"For God so loved the world that he gave his Only Son….” John 3:16

Lastly, we light a white candle to remind us that Jesus is the spotless Lamb of God, sent to wash away our sins.  His birth was for his death, his death was for our birth!

May we never forget that we have reason to celebrate with JOY every day of the year!
