Have you had your JOY JUICE today? Let’s not covet our neighbor’s serving, but simply enjoy our own!
The 10th commandment in Exodus 20:17 tells us: “Thou shalt not covet…” The commandment is very clear because it goes on to tell us what we are not to covet:
- Our neighbor’s house
- His wife
- His male or female servant
- His ox or donkey
- Or ANYTHING that belongs to our neighbor.
Okay….not sure I covet anyone’s ox or donkey; and I don’t know anyone with servants! But this commandment is still relevant for us today!
How many times have we wished for a nicer house, and then someone we know builds or buys one that is just what we want? Are we jealous because they have what we don’t have? That’s coveting our neighbor’s house.
What about your relationships? Do you wish for the kind of relationship that someone else has with his/her husband, wife, friend, or family member? That’s coveting their relationship.
When someone you know gets a new car while you’ll still driving that old piece of junk that could fall apart at any time, do you covet that new car?
Whether it’s possessions or relationships or success or travel opportunities…if we want anything that someone else has, then we’re guilty of coveting. And when we covet…we allow the enemy to steal our JOY!
