Wear the Breastplate of Righteousness and JOY!

Have you had your JOY JUICE today?  Drink it as you dress for the day so that you’ll be equipped for success.

            Ephesians 6 tells us how to be certain that we are dressed for success….spiritually.   We are told in verse 14 to: “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place…”

            We know what a belt is, but we don’t often hear these days about breastplates.  I think of a breastplate as something like a bullet-proof vest that policeman wear in the line of duty to protect themselves in dangerous situations.  

            In Bible times, the breastplate was a central part of the Roman soldier’s uniform. It provided protection for the torso, which contains vital organs like the heart and lungs. Without a breastplate, a soldier knew that any attack could instantly become fatal.  But with a sturdy breastplate, the attacks became ineffective and useless, as the blows would bounce off the armor.

            Our verse for today tells us to put on our breastplate of righteousness.  Without righteousness, we leave ourselves open to deadly attacks from Satan.  With righteousness—just as with a breastplate—the otherwise fatal attacks of our enemy are thwarted.

         So, what is righteousness?  Simply stated: To be righteous is to do what is right in God's eyes. God's commandments are righteousness…and lead to JOY in Him.

           Put on your Victory Vest….otherwise known as the breastplate of righteousness and get ready to face the day with JOY!
